ha ha ha

finally could visit my dreamed paradise - shirakawa-go in Japan. As I know no Japanese (except to say that "I do not understand", "sorry", "thank you" and a few dishes....), do not have the heart to visit 白川鄉 fearing that we will not be welcomed.... But read from some books that some of the Villagers do accept non-Japanese speaking guests ..... ha ha ha... just got the confirmation from one of the guest houses - so we will stay there for one night during our 07 Summer Japan Trip

According to UNESCO, Shirakawa-go is "located in a mountainous region that was cut off from the rest of the world for a long period of time, these villages with their Gassho-style houses subsisted on the cultivation of mulberry trees and the rearing of silkworms. The large houses with their steeply pitched thatched roofs are the only examples of their kind in Japan. Despite economic upheavals, the villages of Ogimachi, Ainokura and Suganuma are outstanding examples of a traditional way of life perfectly adapted to the environment and people's social and economic circumstances." I think their past living style is envied by many city dwellers (that's why I long to go ma)., But some of the time, I am not sure whether inscripting it into the list of world heritage is a good or bad thing. On one hand, I long to go, on the other, I think the tourism industry has somehow changed the way of living there. (nobody took in guest for a living in the old days la....)

Anyway, to preserve the environment there, we will be very carefull and won't bring any junk in and will bring our own bag to take away any trash we produce during the 1 day stay.

Except taking photo, we won't take anything;

Except leaving fond memories and possibly some footprints, we won't leave anything there ...  好緊張... 好興奮.....
