Went on board Doulos - "the world's oldest ocean-going passenger ship" - yesterday to witness her last visit to Hong Kong. Did not have much time for the bookshop as we were late for the show - a talk show involving volunteers from all around the world ... there were news from India, S Africa, France, Chile and Lebanon.
I know that there is still a caste system in India but did not know that there were still roads for different sub-castes (a woman of lower caste was punished by forcing to walk naked just because she had walked along a road for the upper caste). [ why doesn't the world condemn such stratification, just as it used to do for racial discrimination in S Africa?? ]
We also saw folk dance from Ireland and enjoyed songs from an Latin America country (can't remember which)...
I know I need not envy those on board as so long as I am willing to give up my job/ time, I can be there ... ALAS!!! but I envy them
